Checkmate: Manassas Park Community Center Offers Saturday Chess Club

Children can exercise their minds even during the summer break from school with the weekend chess club and lessons at the Manassas Park Community Center.
The class is taught from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. each Saturday by German Gonzalez, US Chess Federation Certified Instructor.

The club is open to children ages 6 to 14 and is free to members of the community center, Tony Thomas, recreation supervisor for the city of Manassas Park said.
Manassas Park residents only pay a $4 drop fee while non-residents pay $5, he said.
The class is suited for beginner, intermediate and advance chess players.
The club can also help competitive chess players prepare for upcoming matches.
