Suspect Distracts Woman While Burglar Makes Off With Jewelry

The suspect told the woman that he was involved with the I-66 expansion project.

A suspect pretending to be involved with a construction company working on I-66 distracted a Manassas area homeowner—while a conspirator made off with her jewelry, Prince William County Police said.

Police responded to the 10200 block of Balls Ford Road around 12:27 p.m. Monday, where the homeowner reported the loss of her jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The homeowner told police that a man pulled out of a white van, walked up to the carport where she was sitting, and told her he was involved with the I-66 expansion project. The homeowner and the suspect went to the rear of her property and they discussed the project. After they talked for about an hour, the man left and told the homeowner to wait outside. He told her that another representative of the company to meet with her, but no one came.

After the homeowner waited a short while, she went inside and noticed the items were missing.

The suspect is described as a white male, 30-40 years old, 6 feet tall, 250 pounds, with a heavy build and short brown hair.
