The airshow takes off 10 a.m. on Saturday but if it rains, the show will be on Sunday.
It's head's up this weekend at the Manassas Regional Airport for the area's annual air show. The event, which is from 10 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, will feature an aerobatic air show, wing walkers and aircraft displays. Admission to the show is free and there will be plenty of food vendors on site. Parking is also free. Donations will be accepted for the Manassas Freedom Museum. Event coordinators also welcome sponsorships. The weather for Saturday is expected to cooperate nicely, with a forecast of 70 degrees and sunny, but if the rain does roll in, the show will take place on Sunday, same time, same place. The Manassas Regional Airport would remain open, but pilots would have to work among themselves to land or, work with other towers far away, the Washington Post reports.
The air traffic control tower at the Manassas Regional Airport is marked for closure by the Federal Aviation Administration if the government's sequestration takes place on Friday, the Washington Post reports. The Manassas airport is on an FAA list of regional airports that would close due to the federal government's mass spending cuts. But government officials said it wouldn't happen until April at the earliest, according to the Washington Post. If the tower does close, pilots would have to coordianate Manassas landings among themselves, land at a neighboring airport such as Dulles International, or communicate with air traffic control towers elsewhere. A Metropolitan Aviation Hawker 800XP had the inaugural taxi, takeoff and landig on the new runway extension at the Manassas Regional Airport.
The city of Manassas will cut the ribbon on the newly extended, 6,200-foot runway at Manassas Regional Airport on Wednesday. The ribbon cutting is days after the inaugural takeoff and landing from the runway, known as 16L-34R. Manassas Mayor Hal J. Parrish II was on board the Metropolitan Aviation Hawker 800XP when it made its six minute flight around the airport and landed on the runway to the sound of cheers of everyone on board. This runway extension project has been more than 10 years in the making and comes as a welcome accomplishment for the airport and for aviators around the area, Manassas city officials said. Thrilling new acts added for second annual Wings, Wheels & Warriors Airshow.
Attention all thrill seekers, the second annual Wings, Wheels & Warriors Airshow is just weeks away, and with exciting new acts added to this year's show it is revving up to be one of the biggest events along the east coast. This year's lineup includes the U.S. Golden Knights Parachute Team leaping out of airplanes performing stunts and world famous National Aerobatic Champion, Sean D. Tucker and his Oracle Challenger III high performance bi-plane. The event, also touted as an open house, will take place at Manassas Regional Airport, Saturday May 12, from 10-4 p.m. and will begin with a 10K/5K run along the airport's tarmac.
