Patch is compiling a list of Small Business Saturday deals. Share yours here.
Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses their community thrives on. This year, your Manassas Park and Manassas Patch sites are joining up to put together a list of local Small Business Saturday deals. We know there are dozens of locally-owned small businesses participating in the area — you can look up which local businesses are participating here. If you are a small business owner, leave your deal in the comments section below, and it will be added to the list. According to the National Retail Federation's national holiday consumer spending survey (conducted by BIGinsight), the average holiday shopper will spend $749.51 on gifts, décor, holiday cards, entertaining and other things this season. Two-thirds of respondents to a recent poll by the NPD Group said they “plan to spend about the same” as last year, while 10 percent planned to “spend more.” Unlike other areas of the country, the fiscal cliff and sequestration are really on the minds of thousands of federal employees and government contractors. In addition, western Prince William…

Old Town Manassas business owners ask for community support on Small Business Saturday and during the annual Merry Old Town Merchants Open House.
The more than 60 business and restaurant owners who call Old Town Manassas home have banded together for a campaign designed to keep Manassas-area residents’ retail dollars at home. The Old Town Business Association wants residents to shop locally because it is an investment in the community said Christine Finnie, owner of Whimsical Galerie in Old Town Manassas. A committee commissioned by the business association found that $68 of every $100 spent at a local business stays in the community, compared to just $43 spent at large chain stores. The committee also found that no money spent online stays in the community. “Shopping local isn’t just about spending your money in a local business. It is supporting your neighbor, your friend, …

The Cornucopia, Manassas Park's annual arts, crafts and food festival, is planned for Saturday at the city's community center. A cornucopia symbolizes the beauty of autumn and the meaningfulness of Thanksgiving, making it a fitting name for the city's fall arts and crafts fair, said Jennifer Deuterman, marketing manager for the department of parks and recreation. Many people in the community have great talents and cornucopia is way to showcase them, she added. Attendees can expect variety of arts and crafts vendors, jewelry vendors, knitting vendors, accessory vendors, photography vendors as well as organic food and homemade goods.
