Moms Talk: Kindergarten Registration is Upon Us!

Kindergarten registration for Manassas City Public Schools is May 4th and 5th and May 7 for Manassas Park City Schools, but what if I don't want to send my child to public school?

Kindergarten registration for Manassas City Public Schools is Wednesday, May 4th and Thursday, May 5th. Registration for Manassas Park City Schools begins May 7 and will be held every Wednesday beginning on May 11. According to the school system's website, students who turn 5 on or before the last day of September 2011 are eligible to register for Kindergarten.  The same goes for children who will be attending Cougar Elementary in Manassas Park. Parents should register their child at the school they will be attending. Attendance is determined by where you live, so if you are unsure of your school, please call one of the elementary schools listed below and they will assist you. As we go through the journey of raising our children, we each face challenges as unique and distinct as the individuals we are raising. Whatever the challenge, parenthood is arguably the most arduous, grueling, and rewarding experience of our lives.  Whether you do it as a single parent or with a spouse, with typically developing children, or a special needs child, everyone needs support.   As the mother of an autistic child, I freely admit I need more support than most.  As beautiful a blessing as both my sons have been, parenting an autistic child is hard.  Aside from all of the things that go with a diagnosis–doctors, therapies, medications, meetings, paperwork, IEPs–one of the biggest for a family can be social isolation.  It’s hard …
