Strasburg High pulled out a win over Manassas Park High Saturday in the Region B Wrestling Tournament at Strasburg High School. The top four tournament placers advanced to the state match up. "I thought we did about as well as we could have with the kids we had. Robbie (Ratchford) did an outstanding job and I'm sure that he would be a state qualifier if he would have wrestled in any other region," Manassas Park Coach Mike Payne said. "Our 113 pounder decided to not make weight for the second day and it cost us valuable points that we needed to win the tournament. The Manassas Park High Cougars secured a first-place ranking Saturday during the Bull Run District Wrestling Tournament at Clarke County High School. The team ranked higher than seven other teams and will advance to the Region B Tournament later this month, Manassas Park High wrestling Coach Mike Payne said. "I was happy to see all 14 wrestlers advance to the Region B Tournament," Payne said. "We had a couple of kids avenge earlier losses to advance to the regional tournament. We'll need to wrestle a little more consistent to advance to the state tournament." The cougars won over William Monroe High and Central High School of Woodstock, VA, Manassas Park wrestling Coach Mark Payne said. "Zach Trueting wrestled very well today," Payne said. Saturday's tournament was the first match for the varsity team.
The Manassas Park High School varsity wrestling team finished 12th in the Elite Opener tournament Saturday at Skyline High School in Front Royal, Mark Payne, the team's head coach said. "I was hoping to finish higher than last at this tournament, however, many very good teams were finishing in the bottom five, as well," Payne said. "Robbie Ratchford and Zach Trueting were nice surprises at the tournament. Both wrestlers were seeded last, but both finished in the top six. Isaiah Baker also wrestled very well (Saturday.)"
