Truckers: Highway Use Tax Return Due Friday

Taxpayers must e-file before 1 p.m. on Aug. 31 because of IRS facility maintenance over the Labor Day weekend.

Federal highway use tax returns are due for truckers and other heavy highway vehicles on Friday, according to the Internal Revenue Service. A release from the IRS said that the "deadline generally applies to Form 2290 and the accompanying tax payment for the tax year that begins on July 1, 2012, and ends on June 30, 2013. Returns must be filed and tax payments made by Aug. 31 for vehicles used on the road during July." Because of the Labor Day holiday weekend, the IRS said that e-filing of Form 2290 must be done before 1 p.m. on Friday. For mailed forms, the deadline remains the same: mail must be postmarked by midnight on Aug. 31, said the IRS.  "The deadline generally applies to Form 2290 and the accompanying tax payment for the tax year…
