Manassas Park High Clinches Girls Track and Field Championship

The Manassas Park High Girls and Boys Track and Field teams traveled to East Rockingham Thursday for the competition.

The Manassas Park Girls Track and Field team captured the Region B Track and Field Championship this week in East Rockingham, Va.  The team's male counterpart placed in the top 20, securing the number 17 spot, according to data from the match. The girls and the boys track and field teams will move on to the state championship match in Radford, Va on June 1. Steven Crist to Lead Manassas Park High School Football Program

A new coach will lead the Cougars onto the gridiron in the fall.

Manassas Park High School has selected Steven Crist as its new varsity head football coach. Crist comes to Manassas Park from Warren County High School in Front Royal where he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach as well as an assistant track coach for the past six years.  “I am excited for the opportunity to be joining the staff at Manassas Park and the Manassas Park community who values education and athletics," Crist said. He will join the Manassas Park High School faculty as a social studies teacher. Crist highlighted his beliefs when he said, “Manassas Parkʼs desire to promote students first then athletes is what I believe. Registration Open for Summer Basketball Camp In Manassas Park

Manassas Park High Coach Dexter Haskins has more than 20 years experience in the game.

Registration is now open for the Manassas Park summer basketball camp in june. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 16 and is $90 per child that's registered by June 7. After that it's $110. Manassas Air Show Takes to the Skies This Weekend

The airshow takes off 10 a.m. on Saturday but if it rains, the show will be on Sunday.

It's head's up this weekend at the Manassas Regional Airport for the area's annual air show. The event, which is from 10 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, will feature an aerobatic air show, wing walkers and aircraft displays. Admission to the show is free and there will be plenty of food vendors on site. Parking is also free. Donations will be accepted for the Manassas Freedom Museum. Event coordinators also welcome sponsorships. The weather for Saturday is expected to cooperate nicely, with a forecast of 70 degrees and sunny, but if the rain does roll in, the show will take place on Sunday, same time, same place. Breaking: Two Dead in Boston Marathon Explosion

More than 100 people injured near finish line in large annual event. There were 8 Manassas runners participating in the event.

Two people are dead and more than 100 people were injured Monday in an explosion at the Boston Marathon, according to live reports from CNN. The Patriot-Ledger is reporting two booms were heard from inside the Fairmount Copley Hotel near the finish line on Boylston Street. There are also reports of multiple serious injuries, but no word yet on whether those injured were spectators or runners.  This is a breaking news story and this post will be updated as information is available. Here's a list of Manassas runners at the event Monday, according to the Boston Athletic Association website.

Cougar Literacy 5K Run/Walk Still Accepting Registration Forms

Manassas Park's premier racing event is set for May and is still looking for a few good runners.

The 8th Annual Cougar Literacy 5K Run/Walk is still accepting applications for participants to get moving for a good cause. The race begins at 7:59 a.m. at Cougar Elementary School. The Cougar Health & Wellness Fair starts at 9 a.m. and features more than 15 local nonprofits sharing information and freebies. The annual Cougar Kids run is at 10 a.m. After that there's an award ceremony and a raffle with hundreds of dollars prizes. A hip hop class for children will also be taught by Charles Ewell of Dynasty Dance in Manassas. The goal of the home-grown Manassas Park event is to raise money for supplies for Cougar Elementary School students, said Audrey Baldwin, director of the race. Former National Hockey League Player Alan May visit Manassas Park this month.

Hundreds of students were schooled on the rules of hockey by former Washington Capitals hockeyplayer Alan May, who visited Manassas Park Elementary School on Friday. Alan May who played for the Washington Capitals hockey team in the early 1990s visited Manassas Park Elementary school on Friday.

Manassas Park Elementary School students learned about hockey from one of the best on Friday during a special clinic about the sport. Former Washington Capitals player Alan May visited a group of 215 elementary school students and conducted the Washington Capitals Hockey School. The hockey school is a free instructional and interactive program that aims to expose students to floor hockey and teaching them the proper techniques of the game. May, a Capitals left wing from 1989 to 1994, did several demos and provided one-on-one instruction to students on hockey stickhandling, passing and shooting. Run a 5K on the Manassas Airport Runway

The third annual 10K/5K at the Manassas Regional Airport is April 13.

Rotary Club International is presenting the third annual Manassas Runway 10k/5k in just under two weeks at the Manassas Regional Airport. Billed as one of the "flattest" races you'll ever get to run, participants will be starting and finishing at the airport terminal lined with warbirds and vintage airplanes. The Manassas Runway 10k/5k begins at 7:30 a.m. April 13.  Registration is $40 until Apri 11 and $45 the day of the race. Have you participated in past years?
