The scammer told a local business that their electricity would be turned off in two hours if they didn't pay $1,400.
A scammer tried to convince a victim at the El Quetzal Grill that he needed to immediately pay an enormous "overdue power bill," Manassas Park Police said. The scammer demanded $1,400 payment and told the worker that his electric company would turn off electricity in two hours on Tuesday afternoon—which would be right in the middle of the dinner hour. When the victim questioned the scammer, he named the wrong electric company for the business. The victim checked on his electric account at NOVEC, and found that it was a scam. NOVEC told the victim to report it to the police.

Shoplifting: An employee at the Sheetz on Centreville Road reported on Thursday, just before 7 p.m., that two teenagers shoplifted $15 worth of candy and donuts. Officers were able to find the two 13-year-old Manassas Park boys, who admitted to shoplifting and were taken to the station. Police released the teenagers into the custody of their parents. Petitions are pending for petit larceny. Petit larceny: A rusty Purple Trail Works mountain bike, valued at $20, was stolen from back porch on Madera Court sometime between 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 p.m. Thursday. A pedestrian was flown to a hospital with unknown injuries after a vehicle accident Thursday, Manassas Park Police said. Officers responded to the accident on the 300 block of Manassas Drive Thursday. First responders took a 47-year-old male to an area hospital with unknown injuries. Police said that the injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening. The investigation continues.
Prince William County Police said that Christopher Blakeney, of Triangle, nearly ran over two officers who tried to arrest him, and hit an occupied car.
The suspect in a February assault case led police on a wild car chase Friday morning, nearly hitting two police officers and crashing into an occupied vehicle, Prince William County Police said. Christopher Blakeney, 29, of Bellau Woods Drive in Triangle, is now wanted on multiple charges, including attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, according to police. Prince William County officers and members of the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force were trying to serve warrants on Blakeney at 8:35 a.m., when they saw him getting into a car. Giving it a quick pat, he tells his wife, Sarah, and an employee that he feels the installation of the ventilation system is a major step toward the slated mid-June opening of Bad Wolf, which he co-founded with Sarah. The young couple was running full speed toward the opening of what will be the city's first nano-brewery when they were tripped up by a scam artist. $4,300 worth of property reported missing.
A Manassas area homeowner recently reported stolen $4,300 worth of electronics. Prince William County Police responded at 12:30 p.m. Monday to the 10600 block of Provincial Drive. The homeowner reported to police that the burglary occurred between 8:50 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. that day. The homeowner reported that a TV, two laptops, two gaming consoles, two cameras, and other property were missing.

Training is open to all faith-based organizations.
The Prince William County Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit will host a security seminar for faith-based organizations on May 30. Police will provide information on how to create a safer house of worship at the free seminar, which will take place from 9 a.m.-noon at the Western District Station, 8900 Freedom Center Blvd., Manassas. Topics will include crime prevention, how to plan for critical incidents, the Department’s “Worship Watch” program, and an overview of a successful security plan, according to police. About half of the funds needed for Ozzy's surgery have been donated since Sunday and a Manassas veterinary practice has agreed to do the operation for half the cost.
Volunteers have raised about half of the funds needed to operate on Ozzy, a West Highland Terrier, who was found seriously injured after escaping from his abductor last month in Manassas. Original estimates for the surgery on the dog's leg were as high as $6,000, but then that amount was reduced to $3,000, said Melissa Korzuch, president of the Prince William Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or (PWSPCA). Thankfully, the Veterinary Surgical Referral Practice in Manassas agreed to operate on the dog for about half the cost, Korzuch said. Ozzy's owner is responsible for about $1,600 and about half of that has been donated since Sunday morning, when the PWSPCA used Facebook to send the word out about fundraiser. Ozzy isn't up …

Prince William County Police Officer Chris Yung died while responding to an incident on New Year's Eve. Yung's name was added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, alongside 19,000 other officers who have been killed in the line of duty. He's one of 127 officers who died in 2012 and are being recognized this week. From postal inspectors to small-town sheriffs, Congress has dedicated the week of May 15 to honoring America's law enforcement officers, especially those killed in the line of duty, each year.
