Tax-Free Holiday: Get Hurricane Preparedness Supplies

Virginia's hurricane preparedness sales tax holiday begins Saturday.

Virginia is offering a sales-tax holiday on certain goods that can be used during natural disasters such as hurricanes. Virginia Del. Bob Marshall reminded residents through is Facebook page that the state hurricane preparedness sales tax holiday runs from Saturday through Friday. The holiday exempts 22 categories of smaller items, including batteries, flashlights, bottled water, tarps, duct tape, cell-phone chargers, smoke detectors, and first aid kits. As long as each item costs $60 or less, it is exempt from sales and use tax.  Portable generators and inverters priced at $1,000 or less are also exempt during the holiday.   For a full list of tax-exempt products, answers to frequently asked questions, and guidelines for consumers and …

Police: Man Exposed Self in Broad Daylight

The man exposed himself to a woman in a Sudley Road parking lot.

A man exposed himself in broad daylight in a Sudley Road parking lot Monday, Prince William County Police said. On Monday at 11:50 a.m., police responded to the 7800 block of Sudley Road, where a 31-year-old Manassas woman reported the exposure. She said that she was walking in a parking lot in the area when she encountered an unknown man inside a vehicle. The man, who was described as Hispanic, between 23-27 years of age, 5’5”, 140 pounds, with black hair, exposed himself to the victim. He never left the vehicle and no injuries were reported. The suspect was last seen leaving the parking lot in the vehicle.

State Trooper Seriously Injured in Crash

Sr. Trooper R.D. Best was flown to a local hospital after a car crossed in front of his motorcycle Friday.

A Virginia State Trooper was seriously injured during a car crash in the Manassas area Friday morning after an elderly man failed to yield the right of way, a Virginia State Police spokesman said.  Sr. Trooper R.D. Best was traveling north on Route 234 at 9:4o a.m., when a car crossed in front of his police-issued 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle, police spokesperson Corrine Geller said.  "A Nissan Altima on Pinnacle Ridge Road suddenly pulled across the northbound lanes of Route 234 and directly into the path of Sr. Trooper Best. The trooper was unable to avoid the Nissan and collided with its front end," Geller said in a press release.  Best was thrown from the motorcycle by the force of the impact and suffered non-life-threatening …

A gunman entered the Dumfries CVS and demanded medications on Thursday, according to Prince William County Police.

See more photos here.  Original post: An unusually large number of robberies on Thursday—two of which targeted adult video stores—have Manassas City and Prince William County police investigating if the incidents may be connected. Four robberies took place Thursday, police said. Alphonso Page, of Fort Washington, Md., is wanted for robbery and abduction in Prince William County.

Prince William County Police are searching for a man who is a suspect in Woodbridge. Alphonso Page, of Fort Washington, Md., is wanted for robbery and abduction in Prince William County.  Police responded on May 7 at 7:52 a.m. to the report of the robbery, which took place on Lodge Trail and Old Kings Road in Woodbridge the night before, around 10:30 p.m. The 27-year-old male victim said that he had made arrangements to sell the shoes via social media to an acquaintance, and brought a friend to the meeting spot. The acquaintance arrived with an unknown man, and an altercation ensued. The men stole a backpack, an undisclosed amount of cash, two cell phones and a pair of shoes before fleeing, said police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok.  On…
