But we can get stoned now, makes perfect sense !! You could always just drive like responsibleRead More people and keep your speed safe, there are thousands of people missing limbs or worse wishing they never were involved in a crash by either there own fault or the result of some balloon knot, Thanks for keeping us safe officers

This is a great personal tragedy for all three of them, but it's just that: a personal tragedy notRead More news. People die all the time, and they probably all feel bad enough about this as it is. Just leave them in peace, at the very least don't publish the truck driver's name.
Alvin Clinton Hicks, Jr. April 12, 2014 at 10:00 pm
Some people nowadays are just simply not mentally/physically fit enough to drive any motorizedRead More vehicles. It is the responsibility of the local and state police, including sheriff's departments, to get and keep neglible people from driving motorized vehicles. The elaborate system that would work if the police would simply do their jobs more responsibly/efficiently. Over the years I have spoken to many police officers about this including dispatchers. And they are simply highly negligent in their attitudes and actions. As if something else at any given time is more important than saving lives by focusing on their primary duties concerning Motorized Vehicle Operators that do not know how to drive! The death rate along with the serious injury rate nation wide is on the rise, not decline. While too many officers are dispatched on redundant calls by comparison! And this dump truck driver should have received nothing less than a serious reckless driving ticket for manslaughter! The evidence is right there! Failure to pay attention? That is ridiculous!
cmvoorhees April 19, 2014 at 10:04 am
Manslaughter seems more appropriate. Why was the driver driving a large, heavy dump truck onRead More neighborhood streets? The impact caused a woman's death. if the dump truck sheared off the rear passenger door of the minivan, the driver drove the truck into a parked car and killed someone. Why the lesser charge? The answer to these questions would be a story.

Vincent Careatti, I see your posts and they are either about I-66 or Route 7. it seems you get offRead More the I-66 to get onto local roads when I-66 backs up. Does that make you want to use cut through and speed? Sounds like it to me. I want the police to keep an eye on you. Because of your cut through driving, you make it very unsafe for my neighbors children, the elderly and myself. Stay on your I-66 commuter traffic route and stay the heck out of places you don't belong. You are making things worst being there. You are the traffic many people don't want driving in their neighborhoods. You don't live there, don't visit or do business there, so you just don't belong there.
Lisa April 6, 2014 at 11:46 am
Part of the problem is the length of the traffic cycles. Miss the light and one can end up waiting 5Read More minutes to get going again, and in some cases have to go through multiple cycles to get through the intersection. In our society of impatience, people start doing other things like texting and reading email, then continue to finish up what they are doing once the traffic moves again. I see that every morning that I drive to work.
Alvin Clinton Hicks, Jr. April 6, 2014 at 09:27 pm
All this is simply proof that the regions police departments are not doing their jobs. All policeRead More officers are responsible to traffic duty when on duty. Most have an attitude to justify not doing this responsibly. Yet the death toll and injury toll is rising in every region across the nation. The last year's death toll was over 43,000. With serious injury's in the hundreds of thousands! And Fairfax is no exception. Most police officers think that they are supposed to get paid overtime on what is called 'auxilary' traffic duty assignments on $overtime$. And the dispatch offices are in on it as well. They get thousands of calls daily with traffic complaints directly involving improper Motor Vehicle Operator driving in any given area thru out Fairfax and most go ignored. Yet someone will call in a redundant call by comparison and the patrolling officers on duty will respond to it instead of the thousands involving even reckless driving reports! Bottom line? It is such gross negligence it is simply criminal in and upon itself! Emails. Written letters. Phone call reports about same being received about Motor Vehicle Operator small and big infractions and what is being done about it? A patrol officer will be sent out to investigate a kitty cat being stuck in a tree instead by dispatch, backed up by the on duty officer of the shift? And what is the departments sworn duty and oat to office and position? "To Serve and Protect". And what major subject issue is killing and injuring people more than any other? The Motor Vehicle Operator.

I find many of the Patch headlines regarding tragedy distasteful and insensitive. For example, whenRead More they combine the tragedy with with other benign events in one headline.
