Manassas Park Voting Office Seeks Volunteers for Presidential Election

Presidential Election years can be especially busy for the Manassas Park voters office.

Americans will elect their next president in less than 11 months and the Manassas Park Voters Registration Office is already preparing for the busy election season by looking for volunteers.

 The registration office always needs the help of volunteers, but assistance is especially needed during presidential elections years, Patricia Brendel, Manassas Park Voter Registrar, said.

 Having volunteers now will save time later, Brendel added.

The officer is currently looking to fill at least two volunteer positions: chief officer of the election and assistant chief officer of the election. The assistantcChief assists the chief officer and fills in as backup when necessary.Candidates need not be residents of Manassas Park.

The duties of the positions include:

  • Setting up poll books and voting machines at the assigned precinct
  •  Overseeing the smooth and orderly operations of the precinct
  • Completing election results documentation
  • Managing staff schedules and rest breaks to insure precinct coverage
  • Working with the candidates, political parties and citizens
  • Work 5 a.m.  to about 10 p.m., the day of elections
  •  Attend a two-hour training prior to each election 

The chief and assistant chiefs officers will receive a $10.00 stipend for training. Training is required for work on Election Day.  The chief officer will be paid $145 for Election Day work while the assistant chief will receive $110.

 Volunteer candidates must be registered to vote in Virginia, be able to work all day on Election Day and have the ability to follow directions well without being easily distracted.
