Community Corner

Local nonprofit helps those in"PurSuit" of Jobs.

A program in our community designed to help those in need move toward a successful future.

Each year, the Action In Community Through Service (ACTS), a nonprofit organization, hosts an event that helps people help themselves land great employment.

Unemployment is a big issue today and many people who are searching desperately for jobs are not able to wear the appropriate attire to job interviews.

With first impressions meaning so much, the appearance of the applicant during an interview is actually very important.  The program was set up to make professional wear available to those who can not otherwise afford the clothing.

This is Robin Sheedy's first year organizing PurSuits.  She is passionate about getting the word out to encourage people to come and see what services ACTS has to offer, even those beyond the PurSuits event, Sheedy said.

"This is the program's fourth year in existence.  The program was started due to the need seen in the community," she said.   "This year we've received our biggest response yet for contributions and donations.  The quantity and quality of donated clothing has been overwhelming.  The community has been so generous by donating so many beautiful suits and accessories.  People in the community are happy to give a hand up."
