Where to Catch Baseball in Northern Virginia on Fourth of July Weekend

As Northern Virginia prepares to celebrate Independence Day, there are plenty of opportunities to get out to some ball games over the long holiday weekend.

The Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League will be holding games all weekend throughout the Baltimore, Washington, Southern Maryland and Northern Virginia area.

The Herndon Braves have home games Friday and Sunday evenings, both beginning at 7 p.m. from Herndon High School, and the Alexandria Aces will play a home game Sunday at 4 p.m. at Frank Mann Field in Alexandria.

In Vienna, the Vienna Riverdogs will host games Friday through Sunday at James Madison High School, with all three games beginning at 7 p.m. 

Teams from Baltimore, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Presstman, Rockville, Takoma and the District of Columbia will all be competing in league action this weekend. To see a full schedule of this weekend's games, click here and view the map above to see which fields will be closest to you this weekend.

On Saturday, Vienna Post 180 takes on Arlington Post 139  at 7 p.m. at Chantilly High School and on Sunday the team will play a double-header against Springfield Post 176 at Lee High School. The two games on Sunday begin at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

Leesburg will also host some legion play over the holiday weekend. On Saturday, Leesburg Post 34 will take on Manasas Post 158 at 7 p.m. at Heritage High School. Over at Loudon County High School the Post 34 Leesburg Rangers (different from Leesburg Post 34) will take on Post 158 Manasas at 7 p.m.

And if you're looking for the big-leagues, the Washington Nationals will host four games this holiday weekend at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.
Thursday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers will have a special start time of 11:05 a.m. in honor of the holiday. The Nationals will then welcome the San Diego Padres to town for a three-game set. Friday's game will begin at 7:05 p.m., Saturday the action begins at 4:05 p.m., and first pitch for Sunday's finale is slated for 1:35 p.m.

The Potomac Nationals, a Class A minor league affiliate of the Nationals, will also host four games this weekend at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge. The "P-Nats" will open a four-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks at 6:35 p.m. Thursday. There will be a Fourth of July fireworks show following the game. Friday and Saturday's games will also begin at 6:35, while Sunday's finale will begin a bit earlier at 6:05 p.m.
