Manassas Park Wrestler, Mixed-Martial, to Teach Classes in Manassas

Dan Severn brings his years of wrestling and fighting experience to Manassas, teaching several camps and seminars with three-time Virginia State champion and Manassas Park wrestling alumni, Tim Tibbs.

Arizona native Dan Severn entered the cage for his first, “No Holds Barred” match more than a decade and a half ago at the Ultimate Fighting Championship 4, and went on to win two tournaments and a super fight championship.

He’s been in more than 100 Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) matches and was inducted into the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Hall of Fame in 2005.

“In one night, Dan Severn took the sport of wrestling and turned it into a martial art,” Mike Chapman, the curator of the Wrestling Museum and Hall of Fame, said when Severn was inducted.

A four time all-American, Severn pioneered wrestling as a base for mixed martial arts and has been competing and training other fighters including UFC champions for more than a decade.

This month, Severn brings his years of wrestling and fighting experience to Manassas, teaching several camps and seminars with three-time Virginia State champion and Manassas Park wrestling alumni, Tim Tibbs. Tibbs has recently been named the new wrestling coach for the Stonewall Jackson High School Raiders.

All programs will be held at Stonewall Jackson High School at 8820 Rixlew Lane in Manassas.  A portion of the funds will benefit the Stonewall Jackson wrestling team.

Maybe I should sign up for women's self defense... My son is in a Gracie Jiu Jitsu camp this week and it's about half girls! Great article :-)

I think that should be "martial?" By the title of the article I wondered if this talented wrestler was offering marital counseling too :-)

Lol! Thanks Kris! Boy I tell you, no matter how many times I proof a story, I always miss something. It would be funny if he offered marital counseling, too. It may be an effective counseling session if couples were allowed to kick each other's butts.

Rachel, do you like this story because a certain panda wrote it ? :P

Funny, Jamie! Maybe he should!

From what I've seen over Dan's career, he's a great coach. I'm sure he could bring some solid team work advice to a marriage, but I'm not sure if stepping into the cage would qualify as "counseling".
