Manassas Park City Schools Superintendent  Bruce McDade and the School Board will host a community forum Monday to discuss challenges in this school district.

The forum is 6:59 p.m. at Manassas Park Middle School in the Dr. Thomas H. DeBolt auditorium.

The forum is an opportunity for residents to meet the school district's leadership, McDade wrote in a letter posted on the district's website.

McDade officially stepped into the role of superintendent on Dec. 1, after the retirement of former superintendent Thomas H. DeBolt, who served the district for more than 15 years.

McDade was the associate superintendent since 2006.

Prior to that role, McDade was principal for five years at Manassas Park High School.

Being principal of Manassas Park High School was good training ground for his current role, McDade said in a previous interview. During his tenure, high school students' state test scored and overall student achievement increased, he said.

"It was the five best years of my life," he said.

Manassas Park City Schools educates almost 3,000 children, McDade said. The number of students in the district has increased by 200 students for two years in a row, he added.

"The student body is becoming more and more diverse," he said. "I want every student to get the best education possible and I want our teachers to be well trained."

McDade is a native of Nova Scotia, Canada, and attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
