Funeral, All-Night Vigil Planned for Late Manassas Park Teen

Funeral services for Katherine "Momo" Morales are scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. during an all night vigil at a Manassas church. Graveside services and a candlelight vigil are planned for Saturday.

A funeral service and all-night public vigil for Katherine “Momo” Morales is scheduled for Friday at Iglesia Principe de Paz Church in Manassas according to the Pierce Funeral Home website.

 The 15-year-old Manassas Park High student, whose given name is Katherine Elicena Morales, died Saturday in Goldsboro, N.C. of injuries she suffered in a two-vehicle car crash during Hurricane Irene.

 The vigil for Morales will  began at 7 p.m. Friday and end at 11 a.m. Saturday, according to the Pierce Funeral Home obituary.

 A funeral service is planned at 8 p.m. during the vigil.

Graveside services are at Bright View Cemetery in Warrenton on Saturday at noon.

 Students and faculty of Manassas Park City Schools are planning a candlelight vigil at Cougar Stadium on Euclid Avenue at 8 p.m. Saturday.

 Friends said Katherine, a rising sophomore athlete, came to Manassas Park Middle School in the seventh grade.

Her family moved to Northern Virginia nine years ago from California, according to the Pierce obituary.

She is survived by her parents, Glenda Cruz and Jorge Lopez, brothers Brian Morales and Jorge Lopez, Jr., her sister Breanna Lopez, her grandmothers Martha Cruz and Maria Soila and her uncles Aleta Cruz and Elio Cruz. She is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
