VRE Proposed Fare Increase Hearing in Manassas on Thursday

The Virginia Railway Express has planned a public hearing for Thursday on its proposed fare increases in Manassas.

Virginia Railway Express officials will hold a public meeting on Thursday to discuss a proposed increase in fees in July.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Manassas City Hall at 9027 Center St. in the City Council Chamber Room.

The increase is largely because of expected cuts in federal and state funding, according to VRE officials.

The increase is the VRE's first since 2009, when fares increased twice in a six-month period. The three percent increase is expect to bring in about $3.9 million more in revenue.
