VRE New CEO Sends Letter to Riders

Rich Dalton the new CEO of the Virginia Railway Express, addresses the railway's customers in a letter Sunday.

Dear VRE Riders,

On June 18, 2012, the VRE Operations Board announced my appointment as Acting Chief Executive Officer at VRE effective July 1, 2012. I would like to take a moment and introduce myself to all of you.

I have been at VRE for 3 years as Director of Rail Equipment & Services. Prior to that, I spent 19 years working in the rail industry in many capacities, primarily in the commuter rail operations and maintenance sector. This career path followed 6 years of active duty in the United States Navy.

As the result of my military assignments and career in the rail industry, I have lived many places in the United States and abroad. I currently call the Fredericksburg area home, with my wife and two dogs.

I typically commute on VRE trains from Fredericksburg, but you will also see me on Manassas line trains. As a sub-component to our Mission Statement at VRE, we emphasize consistency in the service we provide you. I can measure and manage this best if I am out there with you; experiencing the same service you experience.

As Acting Chief Executive Officer, my immediate focus is to ensure we continue to maintain a safe and reliable service. Maintaining or improving current levels of service, including on-time performance, is important to you and to all of us at VRE. I will also focus on the many projects currently underway, or about to start, at VRE to ensure we meet various milestones and completion dates. These projects are important to future service enhancements and to meet the demand in growth at VRE.

I do not want to take up much more of your time today, I just wanted to send you a note and let you know I am on the job and I look forward to the future successes we will experience together at VRE.

Sincerely,

Rich Dalton
