Prince William Library Director To Retire in June

Dick Murphy is set to return at the end of the 2013 Fiscal Year.

The man who has led the Prince William County Library System for almost three decades said he will retire June 30.

Dick Murphy, the director of the system, has been in the position for 27 years, according to a press release issued Monday.

Murphy said he made the decision with mixed emotions.

 “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park, and to work with such wonderful people on the library staff and throughout the County government," he said in the release. "The decision to retire comes with mixed emotions, but everyone must make that decision at some point. I am looking forward to this next phase of my life!”

Meanwhile the county is preparing to select his successor. The goal is to have someone in place by June to lead the 10-branch system that serves the county, Manassas and Manassas Park.
