Morning Voting in Manassas Park Goes Without a Hitch

Many residents vote before work and at lunch, more expected in late afternoon.

The first six hours of Election Day went without so much as a hitch, Manassas Park Voter Registrar Pat Brendel said.

No problems with the voting machines and no confused voters were reported at any of Manassas Park’s three precincts,  she said.

It was fairly quiet at City Hall, one of the voting precincts and the one accepting absentee ballots, Brendel said.

The Manassas Park Voter Registration Office was busy on Monday, with residents asking questions and preparing for today, she said.

There was a pretty good amount of people voting at precinct number 2—Manassas Park High School this morning before many people reported to work, Brian Leeper, Manassas Park City Councilman and member of the Republican Party, said.

There was a small influx of voters at the school just after 12 p.m., but no lines.

Leeper said he expects there will be an increase of people casting votes today after 4 p.m. when people leave work.

He plans to be one of the people locked in the precinct after 7 p.m. when the votes are counted, the councilman said.

He did the same thing last year when he ran for his seat on council and won, he added.

He likes to be the first to know the results, Leeper said.

Once votes are counted at each precinct they are immediately reported to the Virginia State Board of Elections, Brendel said.

The agency’s site, sbe.virginia.gov is refreshes every four minutes, she said.
