Find Another Way Home This Weekend, I-66 W Closed at I-495

Ride metro or drive another route home if you're planning on traveling west on interstate 66 from the Captial Beltway, Arlington, Washington, D.C. or Falls Church this weekend.

Multiple lanes of Interstate 66 west at the Capital Beltway will close this weekend from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. Crews will be performing demolition, excavation, paving and roadway markings. All closures are weather dependent.     

One of two lanes on the exit ramps from both I-495 north and south to Exit 49, to I-66 west will also be closed Friday night through Sunday night. The I-495 southbound ramp to I-66 west will close completely Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 52B, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) east, follow signs to I-495 north and take Exit 49, I-66 west.

All lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday morning, August 27.

Motorists can expect 30 minute delays and are strongly urged to use an alternate route during the weekend construction.

The below links provide a look at the four phases of weekend construction.

  • Phase 1 - Friday 9 p.m. to Saturday 9 a.m. and Saturday 9 p.m. to Sunday 10 a.m.
  • Phase 2 - Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Phase 3 - Sunday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Phase 4 - Sunday 9 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m.
