Del. Bob Marshall Retains Seat in House

Marshall defeats Democratic challenger Carl Genthner with 59 percent of the 10,081 votes cast Tuesday.

After it became apparent that Del. Bob Marshall would retain his seat in the Virginia House, the 20-plus year politician didn't stand up and address a large crowd of adoring supporters, but rather, took a seat on a large stone fireplace and chatted with supporters at a Gainesville home.

"I'm going to do two more years of what I have been doing," Marshall said when asked about his future plans.

Marshall defeated Democratic challenger Carl Genthner by claiming 59 percent of the 10,081 votes. Genthner racked up 4,064 votes or a little more than 40 percent.

Marshall, his family, supporters and Republican candidates for other offices in Prince William County gathered at the Gainesville home after 7 p.m. Tuesday for refreshments and to await the election results.

Marshall said that he'd worked long and hard campaigning and he expected to go home Tuesday night and have a peaceful rest.

"... afterall, this week I've lost a couple of inches in the waist (door-to-door campaigning,)" he said.

"I'll like to thank my wife, my workers and my family. There are no lone wolves in politics—it requires too many people to be successful."
