Polk to Focus on Economic Development in Third Term

After winning election to a third term on Manassas Park City Council, Bryan Polk said he’s ready to spend the next four years taking on economic development in the city.

Polk received 1,032 of the 4,278 votes cast at precinct 1 and 946 of the 3,721 votes cast at precinct 2 on Tuesday, according to State Board of Elections data.

Keith Miller and Mayor Frank Jones also won re-election.

In the next four years Polk said he intends to work with council to push economic growth in the city.

 In the last year, there has been “significant interest” in locating businesses or starting large projects in the city, Polk said.

The city is poised for growth and council needs to continue working to land opportunities that will allow it to do so, he added.

 “Economic growth for us will mean additional commercial and retail businesses in the City, a walkable downtown, and plenty of places for people to eat, work, play, and raise a family,” Polk said.  “I want to market our economic incentive packages, and make the right investments in personnel to enable growth.”

Regarding his re-election, Polk said, "I appreciate that the voters bestowed upon me the privilege to continue to represent them in Manassas Park. ... While I never took for granted that I would be re-elected, I also did not spend any time doubting that I could win.  Instead, I focused on sharing my record of accomplishments and a vision for our City, knowing that most voters wanted to hear more about why I wanted to serve Manassas Park, than about why I wanted to win an election.”

 Miller and Polk worked as a team with

 “I am disappointed that Bill was not re-elected to serve, but I respect the will of the voters," Polk said. "I have worked with Bill for many years now and I appreciate and respect his ideas. He brings a lot to the council based on his unique professional and military experiences, as well as his perspective as former mayor. His actions have always been selfless — his decisions guided by what he always believed to be best for our City. He is a man of integrity, and someone that I have enjoyed working with. I thank Bill for his military service to our country and for his passion and commitment to the City of Manassas Park.

Polk said he considers Rishell a friend who has many good ideas. He looks forward to working with her on council, he added.

Polk is a lifelong resident of Manassas Park He is married with one son and one daughter.
