City Council Votes To Extend Trash Disposal Contract

American Disposal to continue trash collection through end of the year.

Manassas Park City Council voted Tuesday to extend the city's contract with American Disposal Services Inc. through the end of this year.

Council voted to extend the contract until Dec. 31 to make sure services to residents continue uninterrupted while city employees evaluate several options for continued solid waste collection and disposal.

The company has handled Manassas Park's solid waste collection and disposal since May of 2004 and has had its contract renewed twice since the initial three-year agreement.

This is the second time this year the body has extended the city's contract with American Disposal; council voted to extend the contract for three more months at its June 21 meeting.

The open session of Tuesday's council meeting proved to be short, as the body went into closed session at about 7:20 p.m. and retired to the upper levels of the Manassas Park Police Department.
