Victims Chase Suspects in Two Hit and Run Incidents

Two hit and run incidents were reported to Manassas Park Police on New Years' Eve. Both suspects were chased by their apparent victims and one suspect got away, police said.

 Manassas Park Police are searching for a suspect in one of two hit and run crashes that happened this week. 

The first crash reportedly happened Saturday at 2:20 a.m. near Manassas and Denver Drives.

The victim came to a stop on Denver Drive when the driver of a black Nissan drove through the intersection, struck the victim's vehicle, then drove away.

The victim followed the Nissan down Denver Drive and saw a Hispanic male jump out of the vehicle and run through a backyard.

No arrests have been made.

 The second incident happened later that day at 4:44 p.m. near Manassas and Polk Drives.

The victim was heading East on Manassas Drive and preparing to turn North on Cabbel Drive when the driver of a 1997 Nissan Altima went around a vehicle turning South on Cabbel Drive, striking the victim’s car on the front and rear of its passenger side, Manassas Park Police reports show.

 The suspect jumped out of the car and ran, but the victim chased him while dialing E-911.

Police also received a second phone call from someone who saw the crash.

 The victim chased the suspect all the way to Old Centreville Road and Polk Drive where police found the two.

 Cristobal Gutierrez, 49, of Manassas Drive in Manassas Park is charged with driving under the influence-third offense, driving after being declared a habitual offender and hit and run attended, with damage over $1,000.

He appeared before a magistrate judge and is being held without bond. Another court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 23.
