Sunday’s fatal motorcycle crash was the first of its kind this year in Manassas Park, the city’s police said Monday.

Manassas Park Police declined to identify the victim, citing the department’s internal policies and practices, but did say the deceased is a man in his early 30s.

“As a practice we do not release personal information on victims, especially in matters as sensitive as this,” Manassas Park Police Maj. Dean Goodwin said Monday.

City residents, friends and family of the deceased identify him as Jay Lewis, a manager at a local wrecker service.

He was riding on Manassas Drive near Evans Street when the accident happened. Manassas Park residents Patricia and Donald Williams said they saw the accident between 7 and 8 p.m. Sunday.

The couple said the man, who was Donald William's cousin, was headed West on Manassas Drive and was almost home when the incident happened.

Donald Williams said he waved to his cousin and gave the “ride on” sign—a quick flick of the clinched fist— just before he lost control and hit a large truck.

Residents living along Manassas Drive said Sunday that there have been other non-fatal accidents and near misses in the same stretch of Manassas Drive. Many residents cited the speed of passing cars as a factor.
