Police: Sleeping Driver Causes Hit and Run Crash

A Herndon man told police he fell asleep at the wheel before crashing into a parked car.

A Herndon man was arrested Sunday after police said he fell asleep behind the wheel and hit a parked Suzuki.

It happened a little after 1 p.m. when a Manassas Park Police officer traveling west on Manassas Drive near the Polk Drive intersection heard what sounded like an auto crash, Manassas Park Police reports show.

The officer saw the Suzuki sitting diagonally in the middle of Polk Drive and a black BMW with front-end damage proceeding on through the traffic light.

The driver of the BMW later told police he was asleep when he struck the other car.

No one was injuried in the crash, but the Suzuki sustained some $4,000 in damage, while damage to the BMW is estimated at $2,000, according to police reports.

The suspect is charged with misdemeanor hit and run and reckless driving.

He is expected to be appear in court on July 12. Bond was set at $2,500.
