Police: Drunk Driver Destroys 'Welcome To Manassas Park' Sign

Police said the driver took out the speed limit sign, too.

Manassas Park Police arrested a man who apparently plowed into the city's welcome sign with his car, knocking it down along with a nearby speed limit sign. 

On Sunday morning, Manassas Park Police officer noticed the "Welcome to Manassas Park" sign in pieces on Centreville Road. 

Along with the splintered sign was a speed limit sign, vehicle turn-signal parts and a car license plate, Manassas Park Police reports show.

Officers also noticed a trail of car antifreeze and tire tracks leading into some bushes toward Manassas Drive.

Police notified area law enforcement to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle. A short time later, Prince William Police said they'd apprehended the 26-year-old suspect from Sterling and charged him with driving under the influence.

A magistrate court judge issued felony warrants for destruction of a monument, destruction of shrubs and hit and run.

The suspect was held on a $2,600 bond in connection with the warrants. He is expected to appear in court on June 21.
