Motorcyclist Pops Wheelie, Arrested by Police

Manassas man arrested after officer sees him pop a wheelie on his motorcycle.

 Police arrested a Manassas man after he was caught doing a wheelie on a motorcycle near Centreville Road, Manassas Park Police reports show.

It happened just before 4 p.m. on Jan. 10 near Old Centreville and Centreville Roads, when a police officer heard an engine revving and then saw a motorcyclist break traction, raise one wheel off the ground and drive forward on just the back wheel.

The officer turned on his emergency equipment and started to follow the suspect, who looked back, saw the officer and sped away.

The suspect used evasive maneuvers on his 2000 Yamaha Sport bike in an attempt to get away from the officer, but eventually had to stop in a parking lot after hitting heavy traffic near Centreville Road and Leland Avenue, according to police reports.

Ryan John Upperman, 28, of Merrimack Drive is charged with reckless driving, eluding police and driving without a motorcycle endorsement.

He was taken to the detention center in Manassas and held on a $3,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23 on the charges.
