Manassas Park Resident: Officer Involved Shooting Makes Him Want to Move

Residents of the Brandy Station neighborhood in Manassas Park react to a police officer being ran down by a suspect, who was then shot by police.

Brandy Station is just like any other neighborhood during a long, holiday weekend. The community of modest townhouses buzzes with the activities of people off work and nothing seems out of place—save for the green spray paint on the ground that tells a story of what authorities call the attempted murder of a police officer and an officer-involved shooting.

The incident happened on Sandstone Way and Cartwright Court in the wee hours of Sunday morning when an officer responding to drug activity in the area was allegedly ran over by a suspect, who was then shot by police.

A resident of the court, who declined to be identified, said he didn't witness the incident, but knows enough about it—enough to make him want to move.

"When we moved out here five or six years ago, there was nothing but old people out here," the resident, a young man in his twenties, said. "Now, everybody has moved out. All the drug dealers and the gang bangers have moved in."

The area has changed, he said.

"I've been looking for somewhere else to live before this, but now this happened and now I'm really trying to move," he said. "I think all drug dealers should die."

Another Manassas Park resident, who also didn't want to be identified, said that the city used to never be on the news, but now things have changed.

An officer gets shot and before that, someone put an arrow through the neck of a cat, she said, referring to an incident last month where someone shot the Manassas Park Clerk to City Council's through the neck with an arrow.

Police arrested Robert Daniel Washington III, 21,  of Arrington Farm Court in Manassas, in connection with the incident.  He is charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer and malicious wounding.
