Fire Causes $50,000 in Damage to Manassas Park Home on Sunday

The fire was caused by an electrical short leading to a meter, Manassas Park Fire Marshal Mark Joyner said.

About $50,000 in damage was caused by a fire that broke out in a Scott Drive home in Manassas Park on Sunday.

It happened at 3 p.m. at a home at 131 Scott Drive when a fire started on the outside of the home on the electrical panel, Manassas Park Fire Marshal Mark Joyner said. 

The cause of the fire was an electrical short at the service cable leading to the meter.

There were no reported injuries, but four adults living in the home are being assisted with temporary housing by the Red Cross of the National Capital Region, he said.

Firefighters from Manassas and Prince William County assisted in stamping out the blaze.

 Manassas Park Fire and Rescue are reminding residents that smoke alarms save lives. Installing a working smoke alarms in the home can significantly increase one's chance of survivor in case of a fire. 

Remember to:

. Install smoke detectors on every level within the home including the basement.

. Test smoke detectors monthly and replace batteries as needed.

. Change batteries when you change clocks (spring and fall).

. Replace smoke detectors every 10 years.
