Fairfax Police Reach Out to Other Departments for Aid in Butt-Slashing Case

Fairfax County Police create task force with police departments.

Fairfax County Police are reaching out to their counterparts for help in catching a suspect they say is responsible for a series of butt slashings targeting young women.

 Though there have been no confirmed reported butt-slashings outside of Fairfax County, officers there have formed a task force that includes officers from neighboring jurisdictions.

Fairfax Police met with authorities from neighboring jurisdictions Friday morning to share information and spread the word about the agency’s ongoing investigation.

 The last known assault was July 25 at Forever 21 in Fair Oaks Mall.

 Coordinating and sharing information with other departments is essential because of the vast amount of leads and calls from residents concerning the assault.

 Police have stepped up patrols in the home county by increasing the number of uniformed officers in malls and retail centers.

The complete list of slashing incidents are:

  • July 25, Fair Oaks Mall, Forever XXI
  • June 20, Greenbriar Shopping Center, Marshalls
  • June 18, Tysons Corner Mall, H & M
  • June 8, Fairfax Towne Center, T.J. Maxx
  • May 16, Fair Oaks Mall, Ann Taylor
  • March 11, Tysons Corner Center, H & M
  • February 14, Fair Oaks Mall, near Champps
  • February, Fair Oaks Mall (no other info available)
  • February. Fair Oaks Mall, Forever XXI (no other info available)

The suspect is described as hispanic, late 20’s, around 5 feet 6 inches tall and heavy-set. He wore white shorts and a short-sleeved shirt in the July 25 assault.
