Driver Sought in Aug. 23 Hit and Run on Route 28

More details released on crash.

Manassas Park Police are searching for the driver of a Dodge that fled the scene of a crash involving a trash truck.

The crash happened on the morning of Aug. 23 near Centreville Road not far from the Prince William County border when a 2007 Mack trash truck was traveling South on Route 28, according to police reports.  

A 2002 Dodge Ram truck was crossing Route 28 from Blooms Quarry Road when the trash truck struck a 2002 Doge Ram truck on the passenger side as it crossed Route 28 from Blooms Quarry Road.

The driver of the ram drove away from the scene after the crash,  Manassas Park police said.

Manassas Park firefighters said a medical helicopter did land near the scene to transport someone to a hospital at about 5 a.m.

 A Manassas Park Fire Department engine was dispatched to the scene to coordinate the landing zone for the medical helicopter and communicate with its crew, Manassas Park Interim Fire Chief Todd Lupton said.

Motorists said the crash called traffic delays for commuters.

Police issued pending warrants for hit and run of occupied vehicle, driving without a license and reckless driving.   Attempts to locate him have been unsuccessful.  Police said they will release the suspect's name when the warrant is served.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call Manassas Park Police.

 

 

It is not an uncommon occurrence for medical helicopters to respond to a scene and transport the injured to a hospital for treatment, he added.
