Toby Needs a Valentine

Toby is a sweet and gentle Wire Haired Fox Terrier Mix who gets along well with everyone, has a new lease on life, and is looking for a loving family to call his own.

Hey Guys! My name is Toby. I’m about three years old, weigh 30 pounds, and am thought to be a Wire Haired Fox Terrier mix. At three, I’m the perfect age for your family; I’m old enough to be settled into my personality and know how to be calm inside the house, but young enough to still want to run and play and go on long walks with you. I’m great with other dogs, but still a little shy around new people. I just need some time to get to know you.

It’s true that I didn't have an easy start in life. I was rescued from a property in southern Virginia with two other pups who have both found great, loving homes through Mutts Matter... Now it’s my turn. I was chained outside in the elements without the basic security of shelter or care from my owners. Despite that experience, I’m still a very sweet and gentle pup, and am learning first-hand how kind and loving humans can be.

I live with an awesome foster family with two older kids and two great pup brothers that I run and play with. My favorite is Sully. He and I became fast friends, and love to chase each other around the yard and work in the occasional game of tug. I also like to play with the neighborhood dogs and get along well with everyone. Basically, I’m just a good-natured, sweet pup who is going to be one cool dog when I settle into my new family.

My foster dad says I’m really smart and learn quickly. I already know how to sit, have picked up potty training with ease, do well in the car, and love my daily walks. The walks help keep me calm and balanced, and are a great way to bond with my new family. I’m a little fearful of the crate, so using a baby gate until I learn the rules of your house will work best. It took me a few days to feel safe and settled into my foster home, but every day I become more confident and playful. I’m so grateful they took me in and have showed me how to be part of a family. Life is good and things are really looking up for me.

Mutts Matter thinks I would fit best with a family that is more laid-back and calm like me. Small kids are probably not the best fit, but older ones are great! They also think I should live in a home with another dog. I’m happiest when I have canine companionship, and can watch and learn from other dogs as I transition into this new way of life. I’ll need a family who has some patience to let me settle in and get used to having so much love and attention.

Toby is a sweet little dog and really deserves to find a loving and nurturing family.  Do you have room in your heart and home for him?
