Meet Spirit The Shih Tzu

Spirit is a sweet, easy-going Shih Tzu pup who has a great temperament and will fit well in most families. He's a resilient boy and deserves a little extra TLC in his life.

Hello there, my name is Spirit. They named me that because I’m a fighter and have found my way to a better life. Like a lot of rescue pups, I didn’t have a great start in life, but I’ve persevered and managed to stay a very sweet boy with a great temperament. I have a laid-back demeanor and roll with the punches.

I’m a purebred Shih Tzu between three and four years old, and weigh a little over eight pounds. I need to gain some weight, so my foster mom is working to fatten me up. I’ve already put on a few pounds, so you don’t need to worry about me... I love food and I’m enjoying the process.

I was rescued out of a shelter in South Carolina, where my former owner surrendered me after neglecting me for far too long. They had to shave my hair because my coat was such a mess, so please excuse my bad haircut for now – I’m in a rebuilding stage. Soon enough, I’ll have the glorious coat of hair that we Shih Tzu’s are known for, and when I do, I will be even more gorgeous.

My foster mom says I’m a really easy dog. I get along great with other dogs and quickly fit in with my two foster pup siblings. I’m already potty-trained and walk great on a leash; I don’t pull, bark, or react to other dogs, and I already know how to sit, stay, and what “no” means. Technically, I’m crate-trained, but I really don’t like small, confined spaces.

I would fit well in most homes as long as I have plenty of love and attention. I look forward to my daily walks, and am working to build up my endurance as I gain weight and strength. I love belly rubs and want to be near my people, and I like to sit in the sun, play fetch, chew on my favorite bone, and play with my squeaky gingerbread man. Actually, any squeaky toy will do, but don’t forget the treats!

Basically, I’m a cool little pup who needs a new family. Whoever’s lucky enough to adopt me will be getting an awesome and instant companion.
