Richmond Flying Squirrels, Glory Foods to Host Food Drive

GLORY FOODS, INC. AND RICHMOND FLYING SQUIRRELS TEAM UP TO HOST FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT CENTRAL VIRGINIA FOOD BANK DURING JULY 22 GAME

June 13, 2012, Richmond, Va. – Representatives from Glory Foods, Inc. announced today their partnership with the Richmond Flying Squirrels minor league baseball team to sponsor a canned food drive benefiting the Central Virginia Food Bank during the team’s game against the Akron Aeros on Sunday, July 22.

Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring a canned food item for donation to the Central Virginia Food Bank. For every food item donated, Glory Foods will match it. All items donated during the game will go to the Central Virginia Food Bank to fight hunger in the Richmond area.  Also, Glory Foods’ spokeswoman, “Shirley”, will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the game.

“All of us at Glory Foods are proud to place significant importance on helping others in need and encourage everyone coming out to the game on July 22 to bring a canned food item, or two, to help in this effort,” said Dan Charna, vice president of operations for Glory Foods, Inc. “It’s an honor to partner with such a great organization like the Richmond Flying Squirrels to help donate food to such a great cause.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Glory Foods to host this food drive for the Central Virginia Food Bank,” said Ben Terry, director of corporate sales for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, a double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. “By combining our resources, there is enormous potential to collect large quantities of food for communities in need.”

“We are so thankful to Glory Foods and the Flying Squirrels for hosting this food drive and are equally appreciative of the fans who donate canned food items,” said Fay Lohr, CEO of the Central Virginia Food Bank and Meals on Wheels Serving Central Virginia. “It’s through such generous companies like these that our Food Bank continues to help those in need, and we are grateful for their initiative and support.”
