First-Ever Cannabis Lobby Day in Richmond on MLK Day
The
nation is finally beginning to realize that marijuana prohibition makes even
less sense than alcohol prohibition did, because it is a much less
dangerous drug, and one that also has some extraordinary medical benefits. Join
us in Richmond on MLK Day in supporting a cause that the NAACP backs and that
Dr. King surely would have supported because of the huge racial disparity in
marijuana law enforcement--in Virginia, a Black pot user is 2.8 times as likely
as a White user to be arrested.
The main activity will be visiting legislators'
office to express our support for more sensible policies, but at 12:00 we
will gather in the gallery of the House to stand up and be recognized by a
delegate who supports marijuana law reform.
This event is sponsored by the Virginia chapter
of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). More information is available at
Facebook.com/vanorml, where there is also a link to Eventbrite where
participants can register.
