Churches Answer Governor's Call — Will Collect Food for SERVE Shelter on September 21 Day to Serve

On Saturday, September 21, the three Manassas area congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) and the Life Church on Balls Ford Road, together with others in the community, will partner to collect donations of non-perishable food for SERVE, Prince William County's largest food distribution center. Volunteers will collect food on Saturday at Shoppers Food Warehouse. Food may also be donated at 8001 Barrett Dr, Manassas, between 12:00pm and 4:00pm and 14150 Upperridge Drive, Centreville, between 8:00am and 2:00pm. Food will also be collected door-to-door in some neighborhoods. The Super Target on Nokesville Road generously donated 2,000 bags to assist in the collection effort. The congregations organized this food drive in response to the proclamation by the governors of Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia, and the mayor of Washington, D.C, of 15-29 September as Days to Serve focused on “feeding the hungry and healing the planet,” with an invitation to faith-based, community and civic organizations to join the effort. Prince William County and the City of Manassas also issued their own resolutions in support of the governor’s proclamation.
