Manassas Park under a tornado watch until 4p.m.

Manassas Park officials urge residents to use caution during today's threat of severe weather.

Because the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch, residents should continually monitor local news and weather radio updates, Manassas Park Fire Department Chief John O'Neal said.

Manassas Park Superintendent Dr. Bruce McDade said school officials are monitoring the weather closely, but have no plans to alter the class schedule.

In the event of a warning, officials said residents should  seek shelter immediately in a basement, O'Neal said.

If a basement isn't available, move to the lowest level of the building or into  a small interior room, he added.

If you live or work  in a multi-story building such as City Center Apartments and can't move to the lowest level, an interior stairwell is recommended as a safe place.
