Another candidate has thrown down the gauntlet and announced he is taking on long-time Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall in the race for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Atif Qarni announced he will run as a Democrat against Marshall in the fall. Virginia Delegates are elected every two years.
Qarni, a Manassas resident who teaches eighth grade math at Beville Middle School, served as a marine for eight years, during which he was one of the first to enter Baghdad during his tour of Iraq.

He is married with a wife and two sons.
Qarni said instead of focusing on "personal extreme right wing social agenda"  he's running for the House of Delegates because he believes the district needs a new representative, one who will focus on important issues like creating good paying jobs, reducing traffic and congestion and making the schools are going to be the best they can be.

In March, Gainesville resident Donna Sellinger announced she was running as a Democrat against Marshall but pulled out the race one week later.
