Food Lion Stores Near Manassas Park Prepare to Shutter

Most items in the Hastings Drive store in Manassas are half off this week.

Two of the Food Lion stores closest to Manassas Park are preparing to go out of business by mid-Feburary.

The Food Lion store at 10159 Hastings Drive in Manassas and the one at  13065 Fair Lakes Shopping Center in Fairfax near Centreville are two of eight stores in the South the company is closing because of underperformance, said Christy Phillips-Brown, a spokeswoman for the grocer said Wednesday from Food Lion's corporate office in Salisbury, NC.

The Manassas store slashed most of its inventory to 50 percent off this week in light of the closing. Prices will drop to 75 percent off next week—if there's anything left, a store employee said.

Tobacco products and milk are 30 percent off while beer is full price.

Four of those stores are in Virginia, but the only other store in the DC metro that's closing is at 13065 Fair Lakes Shopping Center in Fairfax.

Food Lion will also close one underforming store in North Carolina and three in South Carolina, Phillips-Brown said.

Exact dates for the closings weren't given, but Phillips-Brown said all of the stores are expected to be closed by mid-Feburary.

The Hastings Drive location was a Bloom store in until May of 2012, when it changed to Food Lion after the company phased out its Bloom brand.

Food Lion isn't the first major grocer to close a store in Manassas in the last six months—Landover-based Giant Food Stores shuttered its long-standing location at Liberia Avenue and Centreville Road in November.

This is the world of business. If the competition is winning and you don't adapt to counter it...then you go out of business.
