AT&T Boosts Mobile Performance in Manassas Park

Manassas Park residents with iPhones and other AT&T mobile devices may notice a boost in performance today, as the company announced the completion of a major network initiative.

 Company officials said it has enhanced its wireless capacity and the performance of its mobile broadband network in Manassas Park and Manassas, as well as parts of Prince William County, according to an AT&T press release.

 The AT&T network was also enhanced in parts of Fairfax and Loudoun Counties and network performance is expected to increased for those traveling Interstate 66

 The network enhancement adds new layers of frequency; also known as “carriers,” that increase mobile broadband capacity at more than 100 local cell sites in Northern Virginia.

 Adding carriers are like adding another lane to a busy highway, AT&T officials said.

 From 2007 through 2009, AT&T’s wireless network investment in the state was about $275 million.

 “Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience. As part of the Northern Virginia community, we’re always looking for new opportunities to provide an enhanced customer experience and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way we’re accomplishing that,” said Rob Forsyth, vice president and general manager for Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.

 “In addition, our recently announced agreement to acquire T-Mobile USA will strengthen and expand our network in Northern Virginia. If approved, this deal means that we’ll be able to expand the next generation of mobile broadband – 4G LTE – from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population to 95 percent.”
