Killer Commute Ahead: Manassas Drive Closed at Railroad Crossing on Friday

Expect delays all day Friday in Manassas Park as motorists make their way down the east side of city's main thoroughfare, Manassas Drive—the roadway will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. said Dean Crowhurst, Manassas Park's attorney and acting city manager.

Norfolk Southern, the owner of the railroad, will be replacing railroad ties in the area near the Virginia Railway Express stop and no vehicle traffic will be able to pass where the railroad meets Manassas Drive.

City officials were just notified about the closure late Thursday evening.

The only other way for residents living in areas like Blooms Crossing, Belmont Station, Manassas Park Station, The Reserve and Haverhilll to access areas of beyond the VRE station such as Route 28 is to go around the area using Signal View Drive, Signal Hill Road and Liberia Avenue.

Norfolk Southern is performing similar work in front of the Manassas Train Depot in old town through next week, Manassas City spokeswoman Patty Prince said.
