Power Transformer Fails in Manassas Park

Electric company workers are still trying to determine why a power transformer in Manassas Park failed Thursday morning, leaving more than a thousand customers without power.

The transformer "relayed out" at 9:24 a.m affecting customers in Manassas Park and elsewhere, Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative spokeswoman Priscilla Knight said.

Crews quickly responded to a nearby power substation and re-routed electricity.
The power outage lasted about 20 minutes, she said.

NOVEC continues to ask its customers to save electricity by limiting their power consumption, but that request is unrelated to the power outage.
