Major League Baseball comes to Manassas Park

The Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation will be hosting the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition open to area youth.

On April 30, the Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation will host the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition.

The competition is patterned after Major League Baseball's Official Skills Competition and is open to area youth.

“This grassroots program is designed to provide boys and girls with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills," Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation athletics recreation specialist Tony Thomas said.

There are four age divisions in the competition: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14.

The competition won’t stop there, as competitors will have a chance to advance through an additional four levels of competition, including Team Championships at major league ballparks and the National Finals at the 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Each division will have an individual winner for pitching, hitting and running, plus an All-Around Champion. Local competition winners will advance to the sectional level.
