Have a 'Super Bowl Sundae' at the Central Community Library in Manassas

Families can come to the library on Sunday and have an ice cream sundae for free.

The Central Community Library is once again putting a different spin—and a few extra toppings—on Super Bowl Sunday.

For the past seven years, the library branch has hosted Super Bowl Sundae, a family event that offers ice cream sundaes along with family activites and books Elizabeth Jones, Central Community Libary Youth Services supervisor, said.

"We wanted a fun way to thank our patrons and possibly bring in new families to visit the library," Jones said. "We decided that tapping into the energy and excitement generated by the Super Bowl was a good way to do it."

During the winter, families don't get out as much, so library staff thought of Super Bowl Sundae as something fun and free the entire family could enjoy, she added.

The event is funded by the Friends of the Central and Bull Run Libraries.

The average attendance for Super Bowl Sundae is 121 people, but there has been as many as 160 at the event.

The sundae serving tables are always decorated in the colors of the teams playing in the big game.

This year's event is from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Central Community Library at 8601 Mathis Avenue, nestled between Manassas Park and Manassas.

No registration is required and the event is free.
