Christmas Benefit Concert is Saturday in Manassas

It's not too late to give to someone in need for the holidays.

If you are still in the mood for holiday giving and cheer, then attending the Matthew 25:35 concert on Saturday in Manassas might be a good place to be.

Canned food and toiletries will be collected at the concert scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church located at 9759 Wellington Road.

The canned food items will be given to different organizations in Virginia such as the Roanoke Rescue Mission, Peninsula Rescue Mission and Caring and Sharing at Grace, said Steven Field co-organizer of the Matthew 25:35 Concert.Β

Last year, coats and blankets were collected at the concert and donated to area shelters, but this year, the focus is homelessness and hunger, Field said.

Like last year, money donated at the concert will be used to make fleece blankets for the residents at Birmingham Green assisted living facility in Manassas.

The collected toiletries will be used to make toiletry bags that will be given to the homeless at Monroe Park in Richmond. The needy will also receive cookies and sandwiches.

Local and traveling musicians will play a variety of Christmas music at Saturday's concert at the church, he said.
