Weekend Planner: National Book Festival, Chili Cook-Off

Looking for things to do in and around the Manassas area this weekend? Check out some of these featured events.

 

1. Where/When: Rippon Lodge Historic Site 15500 Blackburn Rd., Woodbridge, Saturday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

What: 10th Annual Heritage Harvest Festival 

Why Go: “Lectures and demonstrations presented by local history, gardening and natures groups will be available throughout the day," according to an event posting. 

Pricing: $7 per person, children under 6 free

2. Where/When: Harris Pavilion, Manassas, Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What: Chili Cook Off/Kids’ Fest/Walk for the Homeless 

Why go: “A one-mile community walk for the homeless will take place at noon during the Manassas City's Chili Cook-off & Kids' Fest,” said a press release from Northern Virginia Family Services. At 1 p.m. the chili cook off tasting and judging begins.

3: Where/When: National Mall, Washington, D.C., Saturday and Sunday

What: 12th annual National Book Festival

Why go: Popular children's writers like Mary Pope Osborne, author of the Magic Tree House series, and the singer Jewel will be on hand to sign books over the weekend.
