Prince William County Officer Dies in Line of Duty
The officer died in a crash on Nokesville Road, near the Super Target.
A young Prince William County Police officer died Monday in a crash on Nokesville Road.
Chris Yung, 35, a seven-year employee of the department, was assigned to the traffic division and was traveling on his motorcycle to another incident just after 2 p.m. when the crash happened.
The driver of a mini-van was traveling north on Nokesville Road and made a left hand turn into the Super Target shopping center into the officer's path, who was traveling south on the roadway.
Yung was transported to a local hospital, where he later died, Prince William County Police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Acting Prince William County Police Chief Lt. Col. Barry Barnard asks for the public's thoughts and prayers as the department copes with the loss of a colleague and friend.
It is not immediately clear if the driver of the minivan will be charged in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.

My heart goes out to Officer Yung's family. I had the chance to work with Officer Yung at a Prince William County school when we needed someone who could translate Korean into English. He was a pleasure to work with that day and was of great assistance. This county has lost a very valuable and professional man. God bless you, Officer Yung. You will be missed by those whose lives you touched.

Did you ever personally meet Officer Yung? If you had, you would know he wasn't anything less than an outstanding officer and man commited to a community that he loved. I'm sorry if you have had bad encounters with the police in the past, but you can't group all motorcycle officers, or any other group of people, and say what you did. The problem today isn't that people can't handle honesty.The problem is a lack of respect and compation for others in all areas of life.

On the occasions I have had to help Officer Yung at the courthouse, he was always professional, polite and friendly with the clerks.
My prayers and thoughts are with this family and the PWC PD at this time.
As for Mr. Doores comments, not all officers are as you described. The comments you wrote were uncalled for at a time like this whether you like the person or not.

John doores #you're a dumb as s! Officer Yung is who keeps drunk drivers and wreckless drivers off the road so you can get home safely to your family! Law enforcement officers risk their lives to help us and serve their communities everyday. You're a disgrace to humanity, this country, and faith. You are likely one of those drunk drivers or hazardous wreckless drivers who put law abiding motorists lives at risk (in that case I hope you got every bit of a tongue lashing from an Officer for jeopardizing innocent peoples' lives). Go rot in a cell! Hope you get pulled over.

Officer Yung appeared in a Public Service Announcement that we filmed a couple of years ago called "Slow Down, Move Over." He was very motivated to help with this project because he said it was "an honor" to help promote the safety of first responders and other men and women who risked their lives on our roadways. Well , from looking at the van, wow, that cop was not doing the speed limit, and thats what he writes tickets for all day in that same area, i feel for his family, but no one is above the law, i have never seen such an imppact for a non speeding vehicle.

Does any one know that unless there is life or limb at stake police, fire and rescue must obey the speed limit even when running code, they must slow or come to a complete stop at all traffic lights and stop signs.nah, you weren't told that right, and blame it on the van, go figure.more police Are erased for the daily roster from ignoring the same laws they are paid to uphold, didn't now that either, as my mother always said to me, don't do as i do, do as i say do.Obey the law.

Maybe next time you need help, and need it fast, we should make sure all emergency vehicles wait patiently for their turn at all intersections? Oh, but no. well seems my comments offend people, so ill tone this down, how fast was the bike going when it hit the van and exploded on impact, another instance where police don't have to obey the law, correct, strange when some one dies they are the perfect person, they could do know wrong, cause death is so painful, i really feel sorry for his family but he wrote tickets daily right in my neighborhood, so i look at it this way, if you are upholding the law you should also follow the law, hope my honesty isn't to offensive, ignorance is only shown when one doesn't understand the truth.when a young black drug dealer is shot down in the street the truth is printed and there is nothing said, leta cop mess up and cost him is life and all comments have to be sugar coated, Rest in peace officer.

Keeping them honest............I'm glad you are no longer serving our country as a member of the military you say you served for 8 years. You bring disgrace to the uniform with your comments. I was a military wife for 24 years of service and I was proud of the service our people in uniform gave and I continue to be today. As for tickets being written in your area all the time, perhaps they were written because someone broke the law in your neighborhood. I bet you would be one of the first to complain about the police not doing something to stop the illegal activiy if they didn't issue the tickets. You can't have it both ways. As for the drug dealer you speak of being killed, makes no difference what race they are. They are breaking the law and chose to take the chance of being killed in doing such activity. Yes, it is a shame that someone's life ended, however, no one forced him to make that decision to sell drugs. I feel for the guy's family who will live forever with the pain of his loss, but he knew the chances and still decided to take part in such activity. Officer Yung, yes, I knew him, was a fine young man and was always respectful. Was he speeding? Probably. Do you know if there were injuries at the crash he was responding to? No. If it were a family member in the other crash waiting for assistance, would you not want help as soon as possible? Would you be happy with a slower response? No, you'd be mad that they didn't get there faster.

Deepest sympathies to Officer Yung and his family and to the woman who was driving the car. This is a tragic accident. Our community has stopped deploying police officers on motorcycle precisely because the risk of harm to the police officer is so great when/if something does go wrong. I hope your community will consider doing the same.

I think everyone needs to just ignore any comments that offend them and either feel they are just or ignorant. No reason to rant on or start against each other.

As a survivor of a fallen officer 46 yrs ago I feel for this officers family. I feel sick to my stomach from the disrespect of all the negative comments and areguing back and forth on here. This is not the place for it. I live in Texas but formally many years ago Woodbridge is where I grew up. My thoughts and prayers go out to the officers families-(home family & work family), his friends and all who knew him. My sister witnessed the funeral procession today and said it was amazing. I salute all that took part in that. No matter what the circumstances of his death are he deserved a send off like that just for being man enough to serve and protect. May you REST IN PEACE OFFICER YUNG! THANK YOU FOR THE JOB YOU DID EVERYDAY.YOU ARE A TRUE AMERICAN HERO! To the Yung Family- My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of a True American Hero and Thank you fir the sacrifices you have made in supporting him in his duties. I meant officer yung when he was a rookie.he helped me when i was at my witts end with my son.My son had stole my vehicle and officer yung was there to help.when my son was into trouble and running away from a group home officer yung was there.Not to press charges all he ever did was talk to my son,as well as me.He gave me words of encouragement.Officer yung said just be patient and he will outgrow the rebellious stage.Show him love and he will be fine.Officer yung talked to my son many times not always because he was called out but because he came by just to check on him and talk.He was more of a father than my sons own Father.He wasnt just a cop but a lovely,caring, sweet man.He cared about the people in his community and cared about people period.My heart goes out to Officer Yung's Family.I am truly sorry for your loss.R.I.P. I would like to offer my sincere condolences on the loss of a Great Man. It's times like this that we wonder, why? Why would the good Lord take such a decent, kind human being from us. A wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and uncle. To this question, we will more than likely never have an answer. Just take comfort in the fact that he died doing what he loved, trying to help other people. I have a brother who has worked with the Sheriff's Office for 30+ years, I know the risks that these officers take on a daily basis. I also have a brother-in-law who was with the police department as a motorcycle officer. He was almost killed while carrying out his duties as the "leap frog" officer during a little girl's funeral procession, on a day that he wasn't even supposed to be working, but he felt it was his duty since he worked the accident in which the child died. He too was struck by a car pulling out of a side street. We were fortunate enough not to lose him , however, his life was forever changed. He was never been able to return to the work he loved so much. Sure, he was offered a desk job, but that was not where his passion laid. For those of you who believe that these men and women are in this line of work just for the money, think again. Please be more aware of your surroundings when driving, listen for those sirens, remember Officer Yung was trying his best to get to the accident victims who needed his help.
